This hack will save your teeth: there are no “right” and “wrong” times to brush your teeth.

It gets in your head that you brush after eating when you wake up and when you go to sleep. Yeah that’s all well and good, but those are times that don’t have a lot of motivation and control…So just…brush your teeth at a different time.

You go to the bathroom in the middle of the day and are like “I should brush my teeth” DO IT!!!! Don’t listen to the other half of that sentence that says “shit but it’s not the right time”

I don’t care if you’re about to eat, or get coffee, or whatever.

If you are there and you want to…do it.

Honestly this hack will solve most of problems. Just stop assigning meaningless “right” and “wrong” to tasks and start saying “I can pretty much do whatever I want whenever I want and society and its expectations don’t really matter to me”.

If there’s no barrier in the first place you don’t have to get over it.

huge ADHD hack. if you can get over the “all or nothing”, moralizing, judging aspect of every action you “should” take, you’ll discover you can get more done than you expect.

I’m a big fan of the 2 PM shower. spend a whole morning feeling lazy and guilty, then just decide to start the day over again, even if it is lunchtime.

you can always begin again. any hour, any moment can be the beginning. you can choose that. the clock doesn’t run you, you run the clock

you can always begin again. any hour, any moment can be the beginning. you can choose that

  • I don't understand. Are cats not a part of nature? Wouldn't letting them be outside be the natural thing to do, letting nature do its thing even if birds are killed? They are animals, it doesn't seem right to me to lock them in a house for the majority of the time. They probably want to be free, they're supposed to be outside like other animals

Cats (Felix catus) are a domesticated variety of the African Wildcat (Felis lybica). This process occurred c. 10,000 years ago. The cats which reside in our homes are different from their wild ancestors on a genetic level which effects their temperament. They also have decreased cranial volume.

All this to say that domestic cats are, in fact, not a part of nature, in fact they are classified among the top 100 worst invasive species by the Global Invasive Species Database. This is why their presence, and predation, in the environment is so devastating.

As of 2016 cats were implicated in the extinction of 63 species, this is 26% of total distinctions attributed to invasive mammalian predators. That’s 40 species of bird, 21 species of mammals, and 2 species of reptiles. They are considered a threat to the continued existence of 420 species.

I don’t even know how to begin to describe the impact domestic cats have on the environment so here’s a huge list of various studies across the globe.

Do you believe that dogs should be allowed to free-range, to come and go as they please wherever they please? What about ferrets? Rabbits? If you’ve answered “No” to any of these, then why are cats exempt from the basic rules of courtesy other domesticated species are held to?

The idea that “cats want to be free” is an example of anthropomorphizing, or ascribing human emotions to animals. Cats do not have a concept of “freedom,” they do not yearn for something they don’t understand.

That being said, controlled time outdoors can be a good form of enrichment for some cats - this means on a harness and leash accompanied by a person, or in a secure enclosure like a catio. However while some cats may enjoy this others have no interest in, or are actively avoidant of, the outdoors and shouldn’t be forced.

Friendly reminder that TNR doesn’t work.

The completely successful normalisation of left handedness in my native culture with zero negative consequences is inspiring to me. It is a deepseated neurological feature! Which correlates with lots of important facts about a person! And was the focus of a long history of violent brain-damaging child abuse! And now is so completely unremarkable as to hardly even be interesting

Today’s youth (at least here) don’t remember it but the times when left-handed people were forced to use his right hand are not that far. My grandpa is forcibly-taught right-hander (as we call them here) and he’s 84. My dad who’s 52 would be forced right-hander if he was like 5 years older.

Like, it’s not sone überdistant future. Dexterity is doom. Sinister people gained freedom mere 50 years ago. And I’m pretty sure there are places where they’re still oppressed and forced right.

This isn’t a joke. This is 100% the truth. My grandma was beaten by teachers as a child for being lefty. She rebelled and is still a lefty today as point of pride.

my gran was left handed and got so abused for it that she still hates writing at the age of 78. She still writes with her right hand too, and complains that she could never learn to draw. Cruelty inflicted in the past is still hurting in the present.

Hi folks. There seems to be a lot of confusion about what we as fans can and can’t do with the striking happening. So I made a flowchart.

Let me make this SUPER DUPER EXTRA CLEAR. Unless an AMPTP studio reaches out and says “We would like to give you X (money/swag/whatever) to create content for us” (that would include writing or acting in anyway on your part) you will NOT be crossing a picket line.

Cosplay, fanart, fanfic, going feral, sharing marketing posts, watching your favorite show, getting your friends to watch your favorite show, etc does not count.

It is ONLY scabbing if you are getting REIMBURSED by the STUDIO.

Please take this flowchart, repost it, spread it everywhere!

The studios benefit from us being confused. The studios benefit from us not promoting and not watching and cancelling our subscriptions. The unions, the actors, the writers, they all benefit from us promoting in their absence, they get paid when we watch the shows, we bolster their argument when we boost the shows numbers. If we make the media popular and successful the studios have to meet the writers and actors at the table, and the writers and actors will be in the position of power.

We need kink at pride because “kink” isn’t just kink. “Kink” is:

    • That boy wearing jeans that are too tight
    • Your neighbors and their “friend” that lives with them
    • Having a beard and wearing a skirt
    • Wearing any kind of choker
    • Literally anything else they decide goes against the “norm”, and it can be literally anything. That is why we need kink at pride.

No we don’t. Respect ppls boundaries. If respect isn’t normal anymore what will be normal then? Anything, no matter how it impacts or scars other peoples lives? Kink doesn’t belongs to pride.

Look around you. Do you see where “No Kink At Pride” has led? Being transgender is illegal now. Exactly what people said would happen. You know what’s going to be next? Being gay is going to be illegal. Because being gay is not “respecting straight people’s boundaries”. They don’t want to see you. They want to kill you.

In support of the OP, let me clue the reply poster in to some of how the worldview of conservative bigots works:

If you are trans you are a sex pervert

    If you’re gay you’re a sex pervert.

If you’re the world’s most chaste and godly nun praying in a convent, who has a lesbian thought once while delirious from a fever, you are a sex pervert.

If you’re a family with a white picket fence house, a breadwinner, a stay-at-home parent, two cars, a dog, and whose politics are right wing… if you happen to be a same-sex couple, you’re sex perverts and probably pedophiles.

If you’re a closeted, self-hating, self-hurting, self-repressing queer going through every torturous form of conversion therapy, who condemns the other queers, who screams at the people who seek abortion help outside Planned Parenthood… you are a filthy, irredeemable sex pervert, a danger to children, and the most sympathy you deserve is transient pity if you admit to struggling.

There is nothing you can do, no behaviour you can engage in, no thought you can have, no clothes you can wear, no existence you can lead that is not an unacceptable sex perversion in the minds of these people. Your existence is kink, and you cannot appease them into thinking otherwise.

The bigoted conservative mind cannot conceive of queerness except as perversion, except as hedonistic degenerate thrill-seeking. They don’t know another reason to do any thing, except as an exercise of power over someone else. Their entire world revolves around this idea. Everything is power, everything is control.

Therefore you can never appease them. Your mere existence is to them a totalizing threat, to their worldview, to their sense of normalcy, to their positions of social power, to their patriarchy, to their holiness. The only thing you can do that will ever satisfy them is die.

    Which leaves us with this:

Either we have solidarity with our queer siblings - yes including the ones you don’t understand, yes including the ones who have that weird sex that you think is fucked up, yes including the cringe annoying ones who “make the rest of us look bad,” yes including the fucked up problematic ones who need to change and make amends, but who deserve their human rights whether or not they ever do that.

Because to the bigot, to the conservative, you’re every bit as much of a pervert as Jenny Piss Kink and their polycule of submissive puppy-masked gender sluts. You throw your bricks when they come for Jenny, because when they come for the Piss Puppy Polycule, they’re coming for you too.

YOU CREATE YOU, ISN’T THAT BEAUTIFUL?

    FINALLY! SOMEONE HAS DONE IT!

In pre-conquistador Mexica religion and culture the snake is a symbol of rebirth, immortality, and fertility. It is a creature of medicine and wisdom. The creature that can transcend the boundaries between the Earth, Water, and Sky.

I SO BADLY want a tattoo of a snake for cultural and trans reasons. It feels perfect.

The snake is not “evil” or “lying”

    And neither am I! 🏳️‍⚧️

So tell your imaginary friends that, colonizer! (✝️)

Found on twitter, going to adopt this now

Writer friends, tell me how many WIPs and how many UFOs you have. I have 2 WIPs and [redacted] UFOs (jk it’s around 16 across my three main fandoms)

going one step further… another yarn craft term that writers should put into use is frogging. If you don’t like the project, but the yarn is good, you can frog it (take it apart) and reuse it for another project.

I think a lot of writers don’t give themselves credit for how many of their ufos have actually been frogged, ie that particular project has been abandoned, but the concept, characters, or setting has been taken and reused on a new project.

Almost all of my abandoned fanfics have been frogged. You’ll find the pieces of them in my original work

my favourite thing about frogging and why it’s called that is because you… rip it rip it (ribbit ribbit)

But! yes! I wholeheartedly concur. I keep “line graveyards” for works that I keep frogging and they wind up being so useful later.

as someone who’s in the writing community AND crocheting/knitting community, i approve of this message

    Dialogue tips that actually work:

    1. You are not writing a movie (ignore this if you are). The reader doesn’t need to know every word the characters say for the duration of the story. Less is more.
    2. Dialogue can happen within the prose. “And they awkwardky discussed the weather for five minutes” is way better than actually writing five pages of dialogue about the weather.
    3. Balance your dialogues. Surprise yourself with a monosyllabic answe to a dialogue that’s ten sentences long. Don’t be afraid of letting your character use half a page for a reply or nothing at all!
    4. Don’t write accents phonetically, use slang and colloquialisms if needed.
    5. Comma before “said” and no caps after “!?” unless it’s an action tag. Study dialogue punctuation.
    6. Learn the difference between action tags and dialogue tags. Then, use them interchangeably (or none at all).
    7. Don’t be afraid to use said. Use said if characters are just saying things, use another word if not. Simple. There’s no need to use fancy synonyms unless absolutely necessary.
    8. Not everyone talks the same way so it makes sense for your characters to use certain words more often than others. Think of someone who says “like” to start every sentence or someone who talks really slow. Be creative.
    9. Use prose to slow down the pace during a conversation.
    10. Skip prose to speed up the pace during a conversation.
